Most trapping projects we take on are difficult and require a lot of experience. However, if there are just a few feral cats at your house or work then we can teach you how to trap there!
The spay and neuter clinic is about 20 minutes from Wilmington. We drop off cats at the clinic every Monday morning and then pick them up in the evening. Drop off is about a 1.5-2 hour time commitment. Reliable transport volunteers are the best ever!
Check in at the clinic looks like this. There are lots of rescues and individuals checking in dogs and cats for the day. Notice the pink slips on top of the traps? Those are the names of the cats with the services each one needs from the vet.
There are tons are opportunities for outreach through events, community education, social media updates, newsletter segments.
We participate in several events held throughout the year in New Hanover County and are always looking for volunteers to help schedule, plan, set-up, and staff these events. Such events include Pawz in Park, Riverfest, Paws in the Park, CB and the Azalea festival.
Send us an email at friendsofelines@aol.com alerting us of your interest.
Are you handy? Do you have a community engagement project for school? Then running a donation drive for food and litter or building outdoor cat shelters are a great way to help out!
This picture shows one of our volunteers cutting cat sized holes in a storage bin and a Styrofoam cooler. The cooler is filled with straw and placed inside the bin for protection. These easy shelters are a great way to keep feral cats warm in the winter and dry in the rain.
Most of the managed feral cat groups have a dedicated caretaker that give the cats shelter, food and water. Some groups have lost their caretakers or their caretaker is physically unable to put out food and water, or trap any newcomers for TNVR. If you'd like to help a caretaker, then please contact us at friendsofelines@aol.com. Make sure to indicate in the email your availability and how best to get in touch with you.
